The Early History of Queens, New York

For many years, Kew Motor Inn has provided top-quality theme-room hotel experiences for guests at its Jamaica, New York, location. Situated in the Queens borough of New York City, Kew Motor Inn enables guests to explore the many historical destinations in Queens

Before European explorers arrived to the North American continent in the 1600s, the present-day Queens area was occupied by the Jameco, Reckowacky, and Mespat Indians. These native peoples lived an agricultural lifestyle, taking advantage of the lush farmland to grow squash, berries, corn, and nuts.

The modern history of Queens stretches back to the early 17th century, 50 years before the English took over control of the North American coastline. Queens was discovered in 1614 by the Dutch explorer and merchant Adrien Block, who sailed for the Dutch East India Company. Passing through the East River, Block became the first European to lay eyes on Queens and greater Long Island. Block soon established the New Amsterdam settlement in Manhattan, which later became known as New York after the Anglo-Dutch War of 1652-1654.

Ride the New York Metro Like a Native With These Three Tips

Kew Motor Inn offers luxurious themed rooms for guests in Jamaica, New York. Located in close proximity to both New York airports and all five boroughs, Kew Motor Inn is a popular hospitality location for tourists in New York City.

The New York subway is known the world over for its sheer size, as well as its difficulty to navigate as a tourist. Here are three tips to help you ride the New York subway like a real New Yorker:

Buy a MetroCard: Long gone are the days of subway tokens, replaced by the ever-present MetroCard. If you will be in New York for a week or less, consider buying an unlimited seven-day pass, which will almost certainly save you money if you plan to use the subway often.

Enter the right station: Many stations have separate entrances for inbound and outbound trains. To avoid swiping your MetroCard and finding yourself on the wrong platform, be sure to read signs carefully and check the map whenever possible.

Make room for others: During peak hours, the New York subway can become jam-packed with people. To make room for as many riders as possible, move away from the doors to the center of the car. Similarly, keep your bags and feet on the ground to avoid taking up seat space.

Tips for Building a Themed Room

Kew Motor Inn has developed a reputation for delivering quality service to customers, coupled with a theme room experience that has seen it consistently voted as one of the top hourly-rate inns in New York by online publications like Timeout and Ask Men. Achieving these distinctions by placing focus on the development of attractive and spacious themed rooms, Kew Motor Inn has provided the backdrop for many couples’ happiest memories.

Creating a great themed room takes skills and patience, but these tips could help.

1. The theme is important but not absolutely everything in the room needs to match it. In fact, being too heavy-handed in applying the theme can lead to you overdoing it and trading class for tackiness.

2. Colors go a long way to establishing a theme, so pick them carefully. For example, a safari room should feature earthy tones, whereas an Egyptian theme should lean more toward blues and golds.

3. Experimentation is encouraged, as you may not be able to find specific items that suit your theme easily. Check online stores to find a wider selection, and try to find a few things that set the room apart, both from other themes and rooms that share the same style of décor.
